After obtaining a degree of Bachelor of Computer Science from Ferguson College, Pune, Dr. Swati Mujumdar completed M.B.A. in IT from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, a B School ranked amongst top 5 in India. She then went on to obtain her Master’s in Computer Science from Ball State University, Indiana, USA.
Dr. Swati stayed on in USA for over 12 years in top IT companies to obtain rich experience in various facets of information and communication technology. She returned to India in 2002 and joined her father Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, in furthering the cause of education through Symbiosis, a nationally and internationally reputed group of educational institutions. She joined as the Director of Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning (SCDL), an institute which has been imparting programs through distance mode since 1994. Almost single handedly and working with all aspects of administrative and operational responsibilities, she has raised the stature of this institute to national and international repute. Today, SCDL has around 50,000 students from all states of India and various other countries.
Early in 2009, Dr. Swati took the initiative of setting up the Symbiosis Community College and Symbiosis Vocational Junior College with Skill Development Centres in and around Pune for offering Vocational and Skill Development courses to the rural youth and women with the purpose of gainful employment and empowerment. She has been doing research in ‘Vocationalization of Education’ for several years and in 2012 she was awarded PhD in this area.
